PointPerfect

On their first day on the renowned pottery course at Harrow in the 1980s, students were instructed to make their own tools. Joanna Howells set about making a pointer for throwing and has now refined the criteria she applied back then.

PotApron’s versatile pointer…

* is free-standing

* has a stable base weighing 600gms (1.3 pounds)

* has two horizontal, oak dowel pointer arms that can be moved independently

* has soft pointers that are flexible and will not scratch

* has hinges that allow the potter to turn the pointer components away without having to move the entire tool

* is equipped with fully adjustable arms that gauge the top and belly of a pot and can even be lowered and adjusted to guide the making of plates.
